Mother of the Bride

We were invited to return in 2024 to give a talk, this time on ‘Style’. We discussed the ‘Seven Steps of Style', and the ladies found it particularly engaging, especially while designing an outfit at the event. Learning about these key steps gives them the knowledge to create something truly special. We presented a client of mine as a prime example of style preference, body proportions, body shape, fabrics, cuts, scale, and features around the face. We then finished off with a lovely before and after of the mother of the bride.

We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with these ladies. Their enthusiasm and interest in the two subjects were delightful to witness and engage with. They were all so warm and supportive.

We had the wonderful opportunity to speak at a networking event in Exeter, joining Alison Hernandez, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall, and Cosmic. The theme focused on empowering women with knowledge about safety and security at home. We courageously shared a personal experience of coercive abuse, and while it was a challenge, we felt truly empowered to help others navigating similar journeys. It was such a heartwarming experience to be heard, supported, and listened to.

'How to look good at Interviews talk/workshop'

How long do we have to make a first impression?

It is a highly competitive world when searching for work. You must be superior and possess the X factor to succeed. Employers seek more than just your qualifications and intelligence; they will also consider your image.

In this workshop, we covered:

  • How we brand ourselves to look fantastic

  • What employers will be looking for

  • How to take control of your Image

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • What are you saying without speaking?

Ask yourself the question…

  • Are you fed up with not being able to get work?

  • Why am I not being selected for that promotion?

  • Just come out of A levels/College/University - how do I look, and what do I wear?

  • I want to look good for this Interview and stand out - but how?

If the answer is yes to any of the above, then this talk/workshop will be perfect for you!

These workshops meant a great deal to me, having children of my own and experiencing challenges at school. It is essential to convey positive messages to students about their self-image and confidence.

Seeing the models before and after

This major event was great fun, but it took a lot of hard work and six months to prepare. We aimed to find models who had all been affected by cancer, each with a powerful story to share about how they looked and felt before meeting us and the wow factor afterwards.

Finding the perfect outfits that complemented their personality, colouring, body shape, proportions, fabrics, and scale, along with styling their hair and makeup, was quite a task. However, the effort was worthwhile; we received a tremendous response to the talk and raised a substantial amount for FORCE.

When it all began …

'How to look good with colour'

Throwing myself into my love of art and being creative led to an initial career in hairstyling. As I developed my skills, I transitioned to managing retail companies in Somerset and Devon. After having my first child, I established my own hairstyling business, which I operated for a decade in Seaton starting in 2001. In 2008, my best friend Debbie (the lady wearing black) suggested that I discover what colours suit me by having a colour analysis. I found the psychology behind the process incredibly interesting as a creative person and a hairdresser trained in colour. So much so that I chose to train in colour analysis at Aston and Hayes in London, an independent training school for image consultants, it was meant to be, given that my surname is ‘Green’!

Once I had the knowledge, I was eager to share it. I organised a presentation to showcase the brilliance of colour analysis. We featured before-and-after models representing the seasons: summer, winter, autumn, and spring.

We couldn’t believe how many people turned up; it was amazing! In addition to my hairdressing clients, I had a waiting list of individuals wanting their colours done. However, what I didn’t expect was to learn about how people lacked confidence and how that related to colour. So many stories emerged about their feelings towards themselves and their distressing experiences. I was taken aback by this discovery and felt compelled to help others. That’s when I decided to train in style.

The training has continued alongside the growth of the business. To date, we offer colour analysis, ladies’ styling, men’s styling, workshops, professional branding, wardrobe decluttering, shopping, interior design, and image talks to various companies and groups. More recently, I decided to rename the business ‘Spring Styling,’ as it seemed fitting. The word ‘Spring’ symbolises rebirth, reawakening, and the sense of waking up in the warm sunlight, ready to embark on a fresh start.

  • "Your message to the students is so important and fundamental to their success in life, both now and after they leave school. The workshop was so much fun. The students were all fully engaged in the activity, which made the messages memorable and, more importantly, showed them how simple changes can have a huge impact on how people judge and react to them. It is an extremely personal issue, but you handled it in an inclusive and entertaining way. Thank you. Many thanks again".

Kate Pemberton, Senior Administrator, Axe Valley School, Axminster

  • "We wanted Maggi to come and host a workshop involving myself and some of my colleagues. We are interested in our Image, so a colour taster seemed perfect! We had a really enjoyable evening; the workshop was informative, interactive, engaging, and fun. It taught us lots about ourselves and each other and was great as a team-building event! We had such a blast that we would like to invite Maggi back to host another session.

Melanie Stevens, HR Advisor, Devon Air Ambulance

  • "Massive thanks go out to Maggi for yesterday's presentation at our birthday meeting. I have reflected a lot on what you told us, particularly how we want people to view us in that significant first encounter. Fantastic advice and guidance on our clothes, style and possible areas for development/ improvement.  Thank you, Maggi. It was really interesting and thought-provoking".
