what glasses suit me?

At some point in your life, you may need to wear glasses. When that time arrives, you might experience a mix of emotions. For some individuals, wearing reading glasses at home is not a significant issue, but if you must wear them daily, investing time and money in finding the perfect pair is worthwhile.

What glasses suit me? When you visit an optician, they will guide you on the appropriate glasses to wear and assist with the fit. However, they may lack the specialised training that an image consultant possesses. An image consultant considers important factors such as your job role, personality, face shape, features, colour, scale, arms, rim, and width of the glasses, as well as the impression you wish to create.

People naturally focus on your face, so if you want to look and feel confident wearing glasses, explore our face-to-face or virtual consultations to discover which glasses and sunglasses complement your face shape, whether round, oval, oblong, square, diamond, or triangular.

Toby came to us as a young student, preparing to enter the 6th form. At this age, personal image begins to matter significantly. Learning how you present yourself to others can greatly influence your future opportunities. Once you leave school, you will likely attend interviews, and making a strong first impression is crucial.

Toby's glasses are an essential part of his image, as he wears them every day. It is important for his eyewear to match his personal style. During our consultation, Toby learned that he has a long, heart-shaped face with angular features. His previous glasses did not complement his face well and looked outdated. They were unsuitable in terms of shape, size, and frame.

We recommended a plastic frame that is slightly wider than his face to visually shorten it to create balance, a rectangular shape to complement his angular facial features, a medium scale to match his body proportions, and a soft, mid-tone colour to enhance his overall muted colouring, all while maintaining a classic shape that reflects his personal style.

how does it work …

We offer two options   -

1. A glasses consultation  2. A consultation & shopping trip

Either of these choices will help you tremendously.

1. GLASSES CONSULTATION

This can take place at our studio in Exeter or via Google Meet. After a mini consultation on your personality, lifestyle and needs, we then sit you in front of a mirror and look at your:

  • Face shape - are you an oval, oblong, square, heart, round, pear or triangle

  • Facial features - have you softer, rounder features or sharp, pointy, angular features

  • Scale - do you have a small, medium or large frame?

We consider all the above and advise you on what glasses to buy. We look at the frame shape, rims and lenses, the glasses’ sides, the frame’s width, and the bridge. All of the information will be listed on an A4 sheet for you to take shopping.

Time and Cost

1 hour - £65

FUTURE SUPPORT

If you are struggling with your choice of glasses after shopping, we offer a Google Meet call to discuss your selection. You send over photos of yourself in the glasses, and we will then discuss them over a Google Meet call.

1 hour - £65

2. A CONSULTATION & SHOPPING TRIP

An initial consultation needs to take place (as above) via Google Meet or a visit to the studio.

We then meet in Exeter and visit various opticians to try on glasses that I recommend for you. The great thing about shopping is that you can see what glasses work for you and which ones don’t. The right pair is a visual thing. When I find the right pair for you, they will stand out and look just right.

It is interesting, good fun, and so worth it!

Time and Cost

1 hour consultation - £65 plus a shopping trip based in Exeter @ £50 per hour.

With Toby now in his mid-20s, he has spent years enhancing his image and feels comfortable with the styles and colours that suit his body and skin tone, as well as how he wishes to be perceived. His style preference is perfectly classic, evidenced by his tucked-in shirt, love of ties, and his preference for a groomed and tidy hairstyle.

We have loved watching Toby evolve and develop an interest in the history of classic men’s fashion, dress codes, and icons. He has a collection of watches and finds every detail about them fascinating. In the photos, he is wearing a Cartier; however, his current favourite is a Panerai.

The quirky glasses he is wearing are his second pair, which he alternates throughout the week. Known as Clubmaster, they were popular in the 1950s and 1960s but made a huge comeback when Bruce Willis wore them in the movie "Moonlighting." Designed by Ray-Ban, the browline style features a heavier top frame than the bottom, which widens and shortens a face, making it perfect for Toby’s long face. Additionally, their angularity complements his features.

Interestingly, wearing glasses creates an educated look, while Clubmaster glasses symbolise authority. This combination fits Toby perfectly as a secondary school maths teacher. Toby is known for consistently presenting himself smartly and serving as an excellent role model for the youth. The children see from the outset the significance of first impressions, grooming, and looking the part.
